Real Mommies Get It

Melting Baby Fat

I’m officially six weeks postpartum, and should be given permission to exercise at my appointment today. It’s a good darn thing – I’ve been hauling huge toddlers and infants around at the same time for weeks now.

I’ll admit it – I haven’t been waiting for permission.

I’ve griped before about how I’m going to figure out this weight loss thing, but with a full fifty (yes, 50) pounds already lost, I’m inspired. Plus I got new running shoes today which are always inspiring. This is the best they will ever smell.

Okay.

I have a few limitations:

  • It’s too hot to take the baby outside other than maybe first thing in the morning or late in the evening, but even then it’s steamy and close to 90 degrees.
  • I have a toddler and infant with me at almost all times.
  • When both boys nap, I need to be working. (I’m a freelance writer.)

I have a few assets:

  • I’ve joined a brand new YMCA with childcare, but it doesn’t open until the end of October. (They’re still building it.)
  • I have a treadmill sitting right behind me.
  • I have an recumbent bike in the garage, buried under baby stuff and computer junk.
  • I have a toddler and infant with me at all times – Talk about working with resistance.

So here is my plan:

I’ll put Baby Brian in the Bjornn and Jake in the stroller, or Jake in the hiking backpack and Brian in the stroller and walk at the mall or outside (weather permitting) in the mornings.

I’ll focus on eating more lean protein, fruits and veggies. If I’m fuller with healthy stuff, I should be less tempted to eat junk or carbs. (I’d diet, but I’d pass out from the lack of energy.)

I’ll use my new running shoes on my treadmill at least a few nights a week, after both boys are in bed. It helps Brian is going to bed a bit earlier.

I’ll take advantage of the fact that my body seems to still be shedding weight on its own. Either that or it has noticed that I barely have time to eat and spend a huge amount of time on my feet hauling 15 pounds of infant or 33 pounds of toddler around.

The final part of the plan is to build on this plan in a few more weeks once I see how my business and my timing is going.

Life is nothing if not constantly changing, right?
