Synchronized Bowel Movements
My boys are going to be like peas in a pod. This is clear by the fact that they have already synchronized their bowel movements.
Jake, being a toddler, will make a dirty diaper and continue to play without alerting me to its presence. Meanwhile Brian, the seven-week-old infant, will be leisurely sucking at his bottle, halfway through a feeding and pause to make one of his own.
We put down the bottle to change Brian’s diaper and sibling rivalry rears its head. Brian is in the Pack and Play where I change diapers, and suddenly Jake is more than willing to share his diaper status and needs a new one now. I’m always inclined to agree.
I finish changing Brian’s dirty diaper, during which he is screaming because he’s hungry and feelings like expressing his indignation. He continues to scream in the bouncy seat while I hoist Jake into the Pack and Play (15 pound weight limit? So what) and change his dirty diaper.
Now I have two stinky diapers that need handling, a toddler who refuses to come out of the Pack and Play and a screaming, hungry baby. Eventually harmony returns with poopy diapers inside plastic bags in the outside trashcan, Jake the toddler playing with his tool bench and Brian the baby finishing up his bottle.
The moral? There isn’t one. It’s just one more case of why parenting two is more than twice as hard as parenting one. But it’s worth it – stinky diapers and all.
