The World of a Working Mom

My Favorite Sleep Resources

Sleep is a big deal for parents. As I mentioned in my post about newborn and baby sleep, there are plenty of ways to help your baby get a good night’s sleep.

Here are some of my favorites:

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Weissbluth

The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Baby Sleep Longer by Karp

The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night by Pantley

I’ve also read these, but they didn’t suit my lifestyle. But to each his own – they will probably work wonders for you!

On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep (On Becoming. . .) by Ezzo and Bucknam

Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby by Hogg and Blau

Each book has points that overlap with others and at least a few tidbits that are worth reading or trying. I should point out that only two books are written by a REAL mom, but I figure scientists and doctors have a few things to say of importance.

With any reading or research, it is most important to read a few things of different opinions to get your facts straight and have a few options under your belt. I then like to discuss options with other real moms to see what their experience has been. The iVillage message boards are one of my favorite places to do this.

Then, I might discuss my plan with my husband.

Finally I give it a shot.

Like all things, it will take more than a few tries to reach a happy place with baby or toddler behavior. You must be consistent and patient. Make small changes and look for results. Eventually you will get some sleep – I promise!
