Real Mommies Get It

Finding Balance (and losing it again)

Until you have two children, it’s almost impossible to understand how hard it is to balance the two kids, your husband, your job(s), and your household. Of course you’re in the mix somewhere, but everyone is always able to tell the mother of small children - maybe it’s the split ends and sweats.

Finding Balance

I’ve been working for years at too many things. I was finishing a Masters, I was teaching, I was writing at night and on weekends, and I was pregnant and trying to raise my son. Oh, and I was married, too. My husband will tell you just how often I forget that…

But this year I quit the teaching job to stay home with my babies. I finished my Masters in August and had that second baby boy. I plan on staying home for one year and had some goals and dreams.

1. I would whip this body back into shape, lose the extra weight, and feel strong and healthy again.

2. I would clean out my house including all closets, cabinets, bookcases, etc…and have a massive garage sale and redecorating effort.

3. I would rest, relax and rejuvenate after so many years of outrageous workloads and stress.

4. I would rival Martha Stewart (sans criminal activities) and perfect “domestic bliss.”

5. I’d clean up some lingering nasty in the finances. (We have home finances and corporate finances thanks to our business, and it never feels organized enough for my Type 1 mind.)

So far, I’ve worked and parented. Oh, and I got a haircut, but that was only because it was so heavy it was ripping out hairs when I pulled it back.

The Frustration

Granted I still have ten months until school starts up again for 2008-2009, but I cringe when I think of my goals. I haven’t had a chance to give any of them more than lip service. But then my writing business is booming. Work is going well and finally reaching a nice balance between client work and my own projects. Hopefully when that levels out, I will be able to move onto other areas of my life. So let’s have faith and here it for ten more months to a better, healthier me!
