Gigantic Baby

Brian jumping at 4 months

The average one-year-old baby boy is 29 inches tall and 23 pounds. My 4-month-old baby boy is 29 inches long and 21 pounds. If I had time or energy to think about betting, I’d bet that he’ll top 30 pounds by his first birthday and be, oh - I don’t know - 33 inches long. That would be the size of a hefty 2-year-old. That’s my boy!

  1. WOW! As the mother of a 7 year who I am forever trying to fatten up, I can’t even begin to describe how envious that makes me!

  2. LOL - I’ll post a recent pic so you can see just how NOT fat he looks. I just have them BIG! (I also have a picky toddler, so I know the agony of trying to make them eat…)

  3. GOD, Rebecca, he’s so cute!! He looks like a little man, not a baby!(if that makes any sense!).LOL

When my son was a year old, my sisters in law (who all had chubby babies) would say, “He really doesn’t look a year old, please don’t tell everybody how old he is, they’ll never believe you!!” and I’d want to bawl! He was perfectly healthy though (still is, touch wood), just hyperactive.

Is this “big baby” thing genetic? If so, my son lost out big time. Both my brother and I were big babies (round about 11 pounds each, which is huge considering I am Indian and we’re smaller made) but it doesn’t seem to have passed on to my son.

  4. Thanks Rayaan,

He is a little man. There are lots of babies that start out big, but end up “normal.” There are other babies born at typical weights, but grow quickly and end up large.

Mine just happen to be born huge and stay huge. I just bought my husband some size 14 boots, so I think the height and size is here to stay. :)
