Attempting a Young Family Movie Night
I recently introduced Movie Night to the Garland household. It’s been a dream of mine for going on almost four years now that I’ll be able to hold my boys while we munch on popcorn and watch the latest and greatest kids movie. (I’ve always been a big fan.) I was, however, blessed with two boys who weren’t interested in feature length films – they barely make it through the Wiggles which tips the scales at twenty minutes.
I’m sure some day I’ll be complaining that they watch too many movies and horrible ones at that, but for now I’m just waiting for the opportunity to make it a movie theater.
We did try the theater once and Jake melted completely about three minutes into Kung Fu Panda so that plan was nixed. Now I usually just skim the DVD rental review sites for things good for little boys and order them online through Netflix.
So far the movie nights we’ve tried so far have been passable. The new Wiggles movie was a hit, of course, but Peter Pan proved to be too long. Kung Fu Panda on DVD lasted about fifteen minutes and we have to skip half of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to keep everyone even remotely focused.
So for now, the family movie night is neither here nor there, but it does give me hope that someday the family will lounge about together eating too much pizza in front of the television. A silly dream to some, but those like me who haven’t been in charge of the remote in years will certainly understand.
And now….more Wiggles!

I was looking for blog ideas to add to my site and I found your site. I like what you have done and will be sure to check back for updates.

Oh dear, the Wiggles? You poor thing! I’ve managed to discreetly skip over that show whenever it’s on. And in stores, I block their promotional items from the kids real quick (like it’s a live sex show or something, lol).
As for movie night, we do it. But the volume must be on loud and closed captioning is a must. Hey, I’ll take what I get.

The Wiggles are growing on me – some of their songs are rather catchy if you listen to them often enough. LOL
I hate SpongeBob.

Good luck! I’ve been informed that things get better when children reach the age of 4, at least when you have two of them. I wonder how much of that is true…
Anyways, hope you and your family are doing good. Email me when you get a chance. It’ll be nice to catch up!
